Reserving for 3 persons on an overnight train. Would we get 1 double compartment plus one adjacent single compartment?

when I order 3 tickets on the overnight train in premiere cabin will I get 1 double plus an adjacent single cabin?
I have not completed the reservation because it specifies 3 tickets and only a double cabin.
thanks

  • Hi Charles,

It depends on the type of compartment you choose, but you can only choose one compartment type for every search you do. That would be the case no matter how many passengers you do your search for. If you wish to book more than one compartment on a night train, you would have to do a separate search for each compartment you wish to book. Therefore, to book a double compartment and a single compartment for a party of three, you would do one search for two passengers in order to add the double compartment to your shopping cart (‘Itinerary’) and another search for one passenger in order to add the single compartment to your shopping cart (‘Itinerary’).

If you were to do one search for all 3 members of your party and choose the option for the double, then two of you would be in one double compartment, while the third passenger would be in a separate double compartment that they would end up sharing with another person.

You would purchase tickets by clicking on ‘Find Fares & Schedules’ on our homepage (www.raileurope.com) and entering a route. When you pull up the results of your searches, you would check the type of sleeping compartments being offered on a particular night train by clicking the 'View' button for each fare that displays.

Please be advised that there is no way to request that sleeping compartments be next to one another on overnight trains. In fact, different compartment types are generally found in different cars on the train altogether.

  • Great info. Thanks. How about if I book and pay for 4 persons for 2 doubles, then show up with only 3?
That will insure no other person could book in that cabin, right?

You could try, but it is not recommended. This is because it is common practice for train conductors in Europe to fill any unoccupied space they see, even if that space has been paid for.
