Can I receive electronic tickets or do I need to pick them up in Rome?

I want to purchase rail tickets for travel within Italy. However, I do not have time for them to ship to the USA before my departure to Italy. Can you buy tickets and have them held for pick-up or sent to my hotel in Rome?

I am wanting specific times to match up with Ferry so too risky I think to wait until I arrive.

  • Hi Gary,

The only trains in Italy for which tickets are issued electronically are the trains labeled as 'Italo' on our website. Italo trains operate only along certain major routes in Italy. If you purchase tickets for an Italo train, no physical documents would even be needed to board. All all you would need to board one of these trains is the 'PNR code' for your tickets and a valid ID. Tickets for all other trains in Italy would be issued as physical documents that we would ship to your prior to your departure to Europe.

You would check ticket costs and schedules by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

If tickets for a particular train are able to be issued as e-tickets or print-at-home tickets, then the option would display for you at Step 1 of the checkout process, which is the 'Delivery' screen.

You can arrange for tickets issued as physical documents to be shipped to you at an address there. However, delivery to an international address is not able to be arranged on our website. To arrange for an order to be delivered to you at an address in Europe, you would call us at 1-800-622-8600 or 1-847-916-1028. Our current hours are 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM ET Monday to Friday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET on Saturday.
