Tickets vs Pass for Malaga-Madrid-Barcelona R/T, Malaga-Seville, and Seville-Malaga

If we are traveling from malaga to madrid, madrid to barcelona and one round trip, malaga to seville and back to malaga would it be better to buy separate train tickets or a pass? I keep finding different rail fares online. Thank you

    Hi Susan,

For an itinerary like yours, I would recommend purchasing a pass called the Renfe Spain Pass. You would purchase the Renfe Spain Pass here: https://www.raileurope.com/rail-tickets-passes/renfe-spain-pass/index.html.

The Renfe Spain Pass is unique from the Eurail Spain Pass (and most other rail passes) in that it is issued electronically (you would receive an email from us with a link to print the pass.) It is also unique in that reservation costs would be included in the cost of the pass itself. Considering that reservations are a supplementary cost to the Eurail Spain Pass, the Renfe Spain Pass generally works out to be the most economical option for multiple train trips in Spain.

The Renfe Spain Pass is also distinguishable from other passes in that it would be purchased for 'segments', as opposed to 'travel days'. A 'segment' refers to each individual train you take (i.e. '6 Segments in 1 Month'=6 different trains in 1 month).

Assuming you take a direct train for your trip from Barcelona back to Malaga, your full itinerary would equal 5 segments; however, there is no 5 segment option of the Renfe Spain Pass. Therefore, for the itinerary you described, you would still purchase the Renfe Spain Pass for '6 Segments in 1 Month'.

Even though there is no additional charge for reservations with the Renfe Spain Pass, it would still be required that you make reservations on each train. With that said, the process for making reservations is different with this pass. If you purchase the Renfe Spain Pass, you would request your reservations just by replying to an email that we send to you when the order for your pass is processed. For planning purposes, you can check the schedules for a trip by doing a search on our homepage (www.raileurope.com).

      Hi Alejandra,

I'm sorry we weren't able to get back to you earlier. With regard to trains in Spain, regular tickets would be issued as 'print-at-home' tickets, whereas reservations purchased for travel with a Eurail Spain Pass can only be issued as physical documents that would have be mailed to you.

At this point, since you leave as soon as tomorrow, we would only be able to issue you regular tickets. There would be no time to issue you reservations for travel with a Eurail Spain Pass, so those would have to be purchased locally when you arrive.

If you just need regular tickets, you would just have to call us today before 6pm CT. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600.
