Spain to Andorra to France to Monaco to Genoa - train to all or just the main 3?!

I want to travel from Madrid, Spain to Andorra La Vella to Montpellier, France to Monaco to Genoa... is there a way to take the train from all of those or just Spain to France to Italy? Thanks!

    Hi Katelyn,

    Madrid to Andorra la Vella

The closest station to Andorra la Vella is L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre (entered as 'L'hospitalet Pres' on our website). However, getting there from Madrid would take about 12 hours (including a bus from L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre to Andorra la Vella).

A much faster and more direct option would be take the train from Madrid only as far as Lleida, from where you can board a bus that would take you directly up to Andorra la Vella. With this option, the trip would only take about 5 hours.

You would purchase tickets from Madrid to Lleida by searching the route under 'Book Train Tickets' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. Trains from Madrid to Lleida are high-speed AVE trains.

Tickets for a bus from Lleida to Andorra la Vella would be purchased locally or directly through the bus company. The operator for this bus service is 'Grup Montmantell'.

    Andorra la Vella to Monaco

The only way to get from Andorra la Vella to Monaco within the span of 1 day would involve taking a bus from Andorra la Vella up to Toulouse, a train from Toulouse to Marseille, another train from Marseille to Nice, and then another train from Nice to Monaco. In its entirety, the trip would take about 12 hours.

Tickets for the bus from Andorra la Vella to Toulouse would again have to be purchased locally or directly through the bus company. I believe the bus service for this route is called 'Andbus'.

For the trains, you would purchase tickets by using the route search feature under 'Book Train Tickets' on our homepage. For a trip from Toulouse to Monaco, you would piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search from Toulouse to Marseille, another search for connecting trains from Marseille to Nice, and then another search for connecting trains from Nice to Monaco. If you can find one that fits into your connection, there are also direct TGV trains from Marseille all the way to Monaco. If not, you would have to make that final change in Nice before getting to Monaco.

Trains from Toulouse to Marseille are Intercités trains.

Trains from Marseille to Nice are TGV trains or regional TER trains.

From Nice to Monaco, you would just take a regional TER train.

    Monaco to Genoa

From Monaco to Genoa, there are direct Thello trains. Otherwise, most connections from Monaco to Genoa involve changing trains once in Ventimiglia along the way.

For the direct Thello, you would purchase tickets by doing one search from Monaco to Genoa under 'Book Train Tickets' on our homepage.

For the connections involving the change in Ventimiglia en route, you would have to do a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search from Monaco to Ventimiglia and the another search for connecting trains from Ventimiglia to Genoa. Direct trains from Ventimiglia to Genoa are either regional (Regionale Veloce) or IC (InterCity) trains.
