Can you make specific seat requests when making reservatins on Virgin Trains for travel with a Britrail Pass?

With a First Class Britrail Pass, does Virgin Trains allow type of seat requests such as individual vs. table seat or right side/window seat on the London-Edinburgh run?

    Hi Tamara,

Currently, passholder reservations for trains in the United Kingdom are only able to be booked locally. Therefore, you would have to purchase your reservations at the station after you arrive. Since these reservations are made at the station, you should be able to request a specific type of seating arrangement.

Aside from any overnight train, the only trains in the United Kingdom on which reservations would be recommended are ones taking over 2 hours in duration. Examples of these trains would be:

    London-Edinburgh
    London-Glasgow
    London-Manchester
    London-Liverpool
    London-Newcastle

Otherwise, with regard to other trains, you can just use your rail pass to board and not worry about reservations.

Throughout the rest of Europe, passholder reservations for trains can generally be booked on our website by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage (www.raileurope.com), entering the route, and indicating the type of pass you'll be traveling with.

  • Thanks for the information. Unfortunately two of the trips are at peak holiday times (Easter week) and waiting until reaching U.K. would mean lousy seats or possibly none on preferred train. Guess we'll have to go with individual ticket purchases. I know Virgin allows reservations on their website once you buy from them.
