Storing Luggage on a high speed train from Barcelona to Madrid

We are travelling from the US and will have one larger sized suitcase which I assume will not fit in overhead compartments or underneath the seats. I've read that there are some storage rooms at the end of the train. If we buy 2nd class tickets, would we have access to this?

  • Yes, most train cars have storage shelves at the ends of each car where people stash their larger bags. You should be fine :-)

    Hi Sarah,

Trains from Barcelona to Madrid are high-speed AVE trains. On these trains, 2nd class does have space to store luggage at the end of each coach, which you would have access to.

Spain is the only country that imposes specific weight/dimension limitations on luggage. The national rail network of Spain states that each passenger can carry up to 3 pieces of luggage, the sum of which may not exceed 290 cm, and the largest of the 3 items should not exceed 85 x 55 x 35 cm in height-width-depth. Also, the total weight of the 3 items should not exceed 25 kg. Anything beyond that would be up to the discretion of the conductor.

You would purchase tickets from Barcelona to Madrid by searching the route under 'Book Train Tickets' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. Generally, trains in Spain can be booked once within 60-90 days of an intended departure date.
