Are cable cars & gondolas (like Titlis & Pilatus) in Switzerland covered with a Eurail Global Pass?

Are all Swiss cable cars/gondolas discounted with the Eurail Global Pass? Your web site only mentioned a few specific ones like Titlis and Pilatus. Is there a list of any more covered ones?

    Hi Linda,

A Eurail Global Pass actually does not cover any cable cars or gondolas, but it can enable you to receive discounts. On the excursions to Mt Titlis and Mt Pilatus, for instance, you would be able to receive a 25% discount by traveling with the Eurail Global Pass.

Mount Titlis when traveling with a Eurail Global Pass

For a trip to Mt Titlis, the Eurail Global Pass would cover you as far as Engelberg. From Engeleberg, you would take a cable car to Trübsee, another cable car from Trübsee to Stand, and a third cable car from Stand to Titlis.

To receive the discount on these cable cars, you would just have to purchase the '1 Day Round-Trip Journey From Engelberg - For Use Only With Eurail Pass Which Includes Switzerland' option of the Mount Titlis Pass. You would purchase Mount Titlis Pass here: https://www.raileurope.com/activities/mount-titlis/index.html.

Mount Pilatus when traveling with a Eurail Global Pass

The ascent to Mt Pilatus begins in Alpnachstad. You can reach Alpnachstad by taking a steamer (across Lake Lucerne) or a train from Lucerne. I mention the steamer, because it's recommended for this journey and it is covered by the Eurail Global Pass (the train between Lucerne and Alpnachstad would also be covered by the pass.)

From Alpnachstad, you would take the ‘Pilatus Bahn’ cogwheel railway (the steepest cog railway in the world) to Pilatus Kulm (the Mt Pilatus summit). From Pilatus Kulm, you would descend on a cable car to Fräkmüntegg. In Fräkmüntegg, you would switch to a panoramic gondola down to Kriens. From Kriens, you would take a bus to Lucerne. The bus from Kriens to Lucerne is covered by the Eurail Global Pass.

To receive the discount on the remaining part of the excursion (the Pilatus Bahn from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, the cable car from Pilatus Kulm to Fräkmüntegg, and the gondola from Fräkmüntegg to Kriens), you would purchase the '1 Day Round-Trip Journey From Alpnachstad or Kriens - For Use Only With Eurail Pass Which Includes Switzerland' option of the Mount Pilatus Pass. You would purchase the Mount Pilatus Pass here: https://www.raileurope.com/activities/mount-pilatus/index.html.
