On the TGV & Thalys, is there a limited number of seats available to passengers traveling with a rail pass? If so, how soon can we book these trains?

My husband and I are travelling to Europe between May 15 and June 15, and have a Global Select Pass for five countries. Two of our routes involve a Thayls train and a TGV route. Is it true that these trains limit rail pass users and, if so, how soon should we reserve. Thanks in advance. Karen

  • Hi Karen,

Pass holder reservations are just one of the type of tickets that the European railroads offer and are offered in limited numbers for sale about 90 days before the train departure date. We suggest booking as close to this 90 date as possible following the below link. Enter the Rail Pass name, the city pairs and the date of travel - if train schedules appear- you're ready to book!

On the TGV and Thalys trains, it is true that there is a certain allotment of seats set aside to be sold at the 'Passholder' rates, and these seats can sell out quickly. For travel with a pass, you would purchase reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage, entering the route, and indicating the type of rail pass you'll be traveling with when you're prompted. TGV and Thalys trains can be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.
