Do I have to validate my e-ticket after I print it at the station in France?

I read through the eticket kiosk printing instructions and it all made sense, I can print all of my tickets at the first kiosk I find. But at the very end of the instructions it says:

Prior to boarding your train, you must validate (composter) your ticket.
"Machine a Composter" are located in the station near the tracks.

I have a 12 minute train change at my first stop. In my rush to get from one track to another, do I have to validate that ticket at a machine "near the tracks?" Or can I validate all of them at the first station where I have more time?
