train segments

Hi. I am looking into a Spain pass. How can I find out how many segments our train travel plans would use? Thanks.

  • Hi Will,

If you are looking at the Renfe Spain Pass, your best option would be to determine your itinerary. You can check fares and schedules on the home page and that should also bring up any connections that you may be taking. However, if you are traveling just to major cities, most trains will run direct from one city to another.

If you are unable to access a schedule online for one of your journeys, then you will need to break the trip up in another city. This would then constitue an additional trip on your pass.

I hope this information is helpful and that you are able to determine how many trips you will need for your pass.

    Thank you,
    Jen

  • Thanks Jen. We will be traveling from Madrid to Seville, then to Granada, then to Barcelona. For the travel between these cities we will use the AVE where and how ever we can. But then there are the day trips from each of these cities. For example, a trip to Segovia from Madrid. I guess that the train from to and from Segovia would mean using 2 segments, correct? Then if there are other stops between Segovia and Madrid, for example, it would be additional segments? It seems like we might use more than 12 segments. Maybe we could augment some of the travel with other than train. But it would be nice to use all train. Are there other passes that would give us more travel?

  • Hi Will,

If you are planning to use the Renfe Spain pass, you will have to purchase a segment for each trip that you are planning take. A day trip from Madrid - Segovia you will use 2 segments off the pass . If your itinerary involves multiple day trips or stopvers then the Eurail Spain pass maybe the better option. Or you may purchase just the point to point tickets for those shorter inexpensive journeys instead .

The Eurail Spain pass will allow for unlimted travel on the National rail network of Spain. A rail day is a 24-hour period from midnight to midnight. You may take an unlimited number of trains each day you use the pass. However, you will have to purchase additional seat reservations as the reservations are not included in the cost of the Eurail Spain pass

You may copy and paste the link below for details about the Eurail Spain pass

    Best Regards,
