Thank you for your question, Martha.

The Chocolate Train excursion itself is a round-trip journey between Montreux and Broc, starting in Montreux. On the way from Montreux to Broc, the train will make a stop in Gruyères. When you get off the train in Gruyères, you'll be taken by bus to the actual village there. The trip includes free admission to the cheese factory in the village. After a couple hours in Gruyères, the bus would take you to Broc, where you'll visit the Cailler-Nestlé Chocolate Factory. After a couple of hours at the factory in Broc, you would take the train back down Montreux.

The Chocolate Train excursion is actually a set itinerary, which departs at a specific time and returns at a specific time on the days that it operates. The Chocolate Train only runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in May, June, September, and October. It runs daily during July and August. On its days of operation, the Chocolate Train excursion departs Montreux at 8:57 AM and has you arriving back into Montreux at 5:57 PM. Please note, these times are subject to change.

A connection between Zermatt and Montreux takes just over 2.5 hours in duration and involves changing trains once in Visp along the way. If you depart from Zermatt early enough, it is possible to get to Montreux in time to connect to the Chocolate Train excursion. You would also still have time to make a connection back to Zermatt after the Chocolate Train excursion gets you back into Montreux.

You would check schedules and purchase tickets by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage. For the Chocolate Train segment, you would just do one search with 'Montreux' as your departure city and 'Broc' as your arrival city, and the tickets we issue would be valid to cover the entire round-trip, including the bus from the Gruyères train station to the village and the bus from Gruyères to Broc. You would then do separate searches for your connection from Zermatt to Montreux and your return from Montreux back to Zermatt.

There may currently be an error on our site that prevents the Chocolate Train segment of your itinerary from being viewed or booked there. Please call us at 1-800-622-8600 to purchase your tickets, if when you do your search, you receive an error message similar to this:
