Website not showing trains from Girona to Salamanca & Salamanca to Cordoba

I am having difficulty finding train travel in Spain for two legs of a trip:
6/27: Salamanca to Cordoba (it looks like multiple legs are required)-we are open to a night train and need to arrive on 6/27

6/22 Girona to Salamanca arrival into Salamanca 6/22. We are open to a night train but need to arrive 6/22.

    Hi CeeJay.

Rail connections from Girona (spelled as 'Gerona' on our website) to Salamanca and Salamanca to Cordoba would both involve changing trains in Madrid along the way. There are no feasible overnight connections between these cities.

Generally, trains in Spain can be booked once within 60 to 90 days of an intended date of departure. However, this is the time of year when the annual 'Summer Schedule Changes' occur with some of the rail networks in Europe (including the national rail network of Spain). As a result of the Summer Schedule Changes, the national rail network of Spain has not enabled many of their trains to be booked for dates after June 13th, including the trains that comprise of both of the requested connections.

I would recommend checking these routes periodically on our site to see when they become available to be booked for your requested travel dates. In the meantime, you can also use a date some time in May to get an idea of the ticket costs and view schedules. We expect the schedules for trains operating after June 13th to be released some time by mid-May at the latest (but hopefully before then), at which point you would be able to purchase the tickets.

With regard to each connection, you would have to break up your search in Madrid. Therefore, for Gerona to Salamanca, you would do one search for trains from Gerona to Madrid (high-speed 'AVE' trains) and then another search for trains from Madrid to Salamanca ('Media Distancia' trains). For Salamanca to Cordoba, you would do one search for trains from Salamanca to Madrid ('Media Distancia' trains) and another search for trains from Madrid to Cordoba (high-speed 'AVE', 'Altaria', or 'Alvia' trains).

When you do your searches, you will see that in both instances your connecting train will depart from a different station in Madrid than the one you'll be arriving into. Trains from Gerona to Madrid arrive into the 'Puerta De Atocha' (station) in Madrid, while trains from Madrid to Salamanca depart from the 'Chamartin' station. Trains from Salamanca to Madrid arrive into the 'Chamartin' station, while trains from Madrid to Cordoba depart from the 'Puerta De Atocha' (station).

To commute between Puerta De Atocha and Chamartin, you would take a local Renfe 'Cercanias' commuter train. The ride between Puerta De Atocha and Chamartin only takes about 10 to 13 minutes. You would pay to board the Cercanias train locally at the turnstiles before boarding.
