    Hi Jeanne,

The Eurail Global Pass does include Hungary, Serbia, and Montenegro. Therefore, both of these routes would be covered.

However, there is no rail line that goes to Budva. To get to Budva, you would take a bus from Bar. The rail pass does not cover the bus. Tickets for the bus can be purchased locally.

    Budapest to Belgrade

During the day, the direct trains from Budapest to Belgrade take about 8 to 8.5 hours. The trains from Budapest to Belgrade do require reservations as a supplement to a rail pass.

Generally, passholder reservations can be purchased through our website. Due to an error, however, it is currently not possible for the direct trains from Budapest to Belgrade. Until this is resolved, you would have to purchase these particular reservations and inquire about their costs by calling us. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays. Generally, these trains can be reserved once within 90 days of an intended departure date.

    Belgrade to Bar

Due to track work on the rail line south out of Belgrade, there are currently no trains operating direct from Belgrade to Bar.

First, you would have to take a bus from Belgrade to the town of Lajkovac. Since this bus is substituting for the trains that ordinarily operate over this route, the Eurail Global Pass is accepted. Therefore, you would just have to show your Eurail Global Pass to board.

In Lajkovac, you would board the direct train that will take you down to Bar. The train from Lajkovac to Bar does not require reservations, so the Eurail Global Pass is all you would need to board.

The train from Lajkovac to Bar takes about 10.5 hours. Schedules for this train are not able to be viewed on our website. If you'd like to inquire about its schedule, you would have to call us.

A coworker who has done both of these routes on multiple occasions says that he felt safe and that he sees many solo travelers on the trains. As with anywhere, it's always good to be aware of your surroundings. I would just recommend keeping your belongings close and being conscious of your surroundings.
