    Hi Elisa,

A rail pass covers the ticket costs for trains between different cities in the country or countries listed on the pass. Therefore, a rail pass that includes both Norway and Sweden would cover the ticket costs for this connection. A rail connection from Trondheim to Stockholm would involve one train change in either Oslo or Storlien.

There is a day connection that involves changing trains in Oslo. The train from Trondheim to Oslo and the train from Oslo to Stockholm would both require reservations in addition to the rail pass.

There are two overnight connections; one that involves taking an overnight train for the final part of the connection from Storlien to Stockholm and one that involves taking an overnight train for the first part of the connection from Trondheim to Oslo.

For the overnight connection from Trondheim to Stockholm via Storlien: reservations would not be accepted on the train from Trondheim to Storlien, however, reservations would be required on the night train from Storlien to Stockholm.

For the overnight connection from Trondheim to Stockholm via Oslo: reservations would be required on the overnight train from Trondheim to Oslo and on the connecting train from Oslo to Stockholm the following morning.

Generally, you can book reservations by searching a route on our homepage and clicking the 'I have a rail pass' box; however, the day trains from Oslo to Stockholm and both of the night trains mentioned are not able to be booked or viewed there at this time. Therefore, to make reservations on any of these trains and inquire about their reservation costs, you would have to instead email your request to customercare@raileurope.com. Currently, of the reservable trains mentioned above, only the trains from Trondheim to Oslo are able to be reserved on our website.

These trains can be reserved within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

  • Is the Storlien-Trondheim train still unable to be reserved through Rail Europe 7 years later?

Trains from Storlein to Trondheim do not accept reservations. Therefore, if you a have a rail pass that includes Sweden and Norway, then that would be all you'd need to board.

If you do not have a rail pass, regular tickets for trains Storlein to Trondheim are only able to be purchased locally when you're there.
