Traveling from Venice to Hallstatt Lake

Hello, I am trying to find the best way to travel from Venice to Hallstatt lake in September. We are willing to go from Venice to Salzburg and take a day trip from there to Hallstatt. What would be the best way to achieve this?

    Hi Dayna,

The rail connection from Venice to Hallstatt takes about 9.5 hours in duration and involves 3 train changes along the way; once in Verona, once in Innsbruck, and then once in Attnang-Puchheim.

The train station is across the lake from the actual town of Hallstatt. To get into town, there are ferries that take arriving passengers across the lake. These ferries are timed to meet with the train arrivals and departures. The ride on this ferry into town only takes about 10 or 15 minutes, and there would just be a small fee that you would pay locally.

You would purchase tickets and check schedules for the rail connection from Venice to Hallstatt by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. You would just have to break up your search once in Innsbruck, in order to purchase the tickets and view schedules on our site.

Also, the tickets we issue for the train from Attnang Puchheim to Hallstatt would actually display 'Bad Aussee' as the destination. Trains from Attnang Puchheim stop in Hallstatt just about 17 minutes before they are shown to be arriving into Bad Aussee. You would get off the train in Hallstatt even though your ticket would reflect Bad Ausse as the arrival station.

Therefore, to purchase tickets and check schedules for this connection, you would do one search for the segment from Venice to Innsbruck and then another search to connect for the segment from Innsbruck to Bad Aussee.

The trains that comprise of this connection can only be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure. Since your intended travel falls outside of this time frame, you would just enter an earlier date within the next 90 days to get an idea of the ticket costs and view schedules when searching the route on our site.
