    Hi Ben,

For your bikes to be allowed still fully assembled, you would have to take a connection comprised solely of regional trains.

From Biarritz to Santander, a connection made up of regional trains would involve at least 3 train changes along the way; once in Hendaye, once in Irun, and then once in Palencia.

    Biarritz to Hendaye

If you need to keep your bike assembled, you would have to take a regional TER train for the segment from Biarritz to Hendaye. The ride only takes about 30 minutes. Tickets for the TER trains from Biarritz to Hendaye are only able to be purchased locally in France.

    Hendaye to Irun

To get from Hendaye to Irun, you would take a local commuter train called the 'Euskotren'. The Euskotren is supposed to allow assembled bikes on board. The Euskotren departs once every 30 minutes, and the ride from Hendaye to Irun is only able 4 minutes. Tickets for the Euskotren are also only able to be purchased locally when you're there.

    Irun to Palencia

If you need to keep your bike assembled, you would have to take a regional MD (Media Distancia) train for the segment from Irun to Palencia.

You would purchase tickets from Irun to Palencia by searching the route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. When you pull up the results of your search, the MD trains will be labeled as 'Regional' trains. Just be sure to choose one of the 'Regional' trains so that you can take your bike on board fully assembled.

    Palencia to Santander

If you need to keep your bike assembled, you would have to take a Regional Express train for the segment from Palencia to Santander.

You would purchase tickets from Palencia to Santander by searching the route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. When you pull up the results of your search, the Regional Express trains will be labeled just as 'Train'. Just be sure to choose one of the trains labeled 'Train' so that you can take your bike on board fully assembled.
