Angouleme-Paris round-trip. Does it make sense to buy a rail pass? How much are reservations?

My wife and I both 60+, Angouleme to Paris May 17 and back May 20. 1st class on TGV is 326 Euros. Does it make sense to buy a pass? Is there enough time? How much do reservations cost?

    Hi Art,

It would just depend on the rates you can get for regular tickets on your TGV trains between Angouleme and Paris.

You would check regular tickets (and purchase tickets) by entering the route on our homepage, www.raileurope.com. On these trains, there may be various levels of flexibility offered for regular tickets. You would check the 'Ticket Flexibility' options and their corresponding costs by clicking the 'View' button underneath the initial costs shown for a particular fare. Under 'Ticket Flexibility', you would be presented with some combination of 'Non Flexible', 'Semi Flexible', or 'Flexible' options. You would then just click on the option for which you wish to view the cost.

Otherwise, there is a 2 day option for the France Rail Pass that you could purchase in place of regular tickets. You can check costs for the France Rail Pass here: https://www.raileurope.com/rail-tickets-passes/france-pass/index.html

With a rail pass, you would also have to account for reservation costs. For travel with a rail pass, you would check reservation costs (and purchase reservations) by entering the route on our homepage and indicating the type of pass with which you'll be traveling (i.e. France Rail Pass).

Due to the close proximity of your departure, it would be recommended that you place your order as soon as possible. Regular tickets and passholder reservations are generally able to be issued electronically, but the France Rail Pass is only able to be issued as a physical document that would have to be shipped to you.

Any order placed on our website can take 24 to 48 business hours to be processed in addition to the time it takes to ship the documents, which would be an additional 2 to 3 business days if the option of standard delivery is chosen or an additional 1 business day if the option of express delivery is chosen. Therefore, if you need the documents by tomorrow or within the next couple days, then you would have to call us at 1-800-622-8600 to place your order and request overnight delivery. By calling us, you would be able to bypass the potential 24 to 48 hour processing time and ensure that your order is able to go out today, so you can receive it tomorrow. The last shipment on any given weekday leaves our office at 5:30 PM CT.
