We are planning a trip to England in May and will stay in London or Swidon. Will britrail pass let you take a train from Gatwick to Swindon

We would also like to go to Stratford on Avon and the Cotswold from London. Does a Eurail England pass cover this? Also can you take luggage?

    Hi Cynthia,

For the BritRail England Pass, you would click here: http://www.raileurope.com/pass/britrail-england-pass-5893.

    Gatwick Airport to Swindon

A connection from the Gatwick Airport to Swindon involves going into London first. To do so, you would take the Gatwick Express. The Gatwick Express arrives into the Victoria station in London. They depart frequently and the ride only takes about 30-35 minutes.

Trains from London to Swindon depart from the London Paddington station.

To get from the Victoria station to the Paddington station, you would take the Circle Line of the Tube. The Circle Line from Victoria to Paddington takes about 17-20 minutes. You would pay to board the Tube locally at the turnstiles when you're there.

The BritRail England Pass does cover the Gatwick Express, as well as the trains from London to Swindon.

On trains from London to Swindon, reservations are not necessary. Therefore, the BritRail England Pass is all you would need to board. For planning purposes, you can view schedules from London to Swindon by using the route search fields right on our homepage, www.raileurope.com.

Swindon to Stratford-upon-Avon (via Reading and Leamington Spa)

From Swindon to Stratford-upon-Avon, the most common connections involve 2 train changes en route; once in Reading and then once in Leamington Spa. These trains do not accept reservations, so the BritRail England Pass is all you would need to board. For planning purposes, you can view these schedules on our website; you would just have to piece together your search segment-by-segment. Therefore, you would do one search from Swindon to Reading, another search for connecting trains from Reading to Leamington Spa, and another search for connecting trains from Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Swindon to Stratford-upon-Avon (via Didcot, Banbury, and Leamington Spa)

You also might want to consider a connection from Swindon to Stratford-upon-Avon that involves 3 train changes, but is even faster than the option involving 2 train changes. The train changes would be made in Didcot, Banbury, and Leamington Spa. Reservations are also not needed on any of these trains, so the BritRail England Pass is all you would need to board. Once again, to view schedules you would just have to piece together the connection segment-by-segment. Therefore, you would do one search from Swindon to Didcot, another search for connecting trains from Didcot to Banbury, another search for connecting trains from Banbury to Leamington Spa, and another search for connecting trains from Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon.
