    Hi,

The most feasible connection from either Rome or Venice to Barcelona would involve taking the direct overnight train from Milan to Barcelona, however, the night train from Milan to Barcelona only operates Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

You can check ticket costs and schedules under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. First, you would do a search for trains from either Rome or Venice to Milan. You would then do another search for access to the night train from Milan to Barcelona.

Also, point-to-point ticket searches to or from Barcelona require that the station name be typed out when you enter your search. For the night train from Milan to Barcelona, you would type 'Barcelona Estacio De Franca' in the destination field.

These trains can only be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure. Since your intended date of departure falls outside of this time frame, you would just enter a date within the next 90 days to get an idea of cost and schedule when searching the route on our website.

If you must depart on August 30th, which is a Thursday, the connection from either Rome or Venice would take about 27 hours and involve 4 train changes en route; once in Milan, once in Geneva, once in Lyon, and then once in Montpellier. Once again, to view fares and schedules, you would piece together the connection by doing separate searches for each segment of the trip. For the search for the portion of the route from Montpellier to Barcelona, you would have to type 'Barcelona Sants' in the field for the destination.

From Rome, there would also be a 22.5 hour overnight option to Barcelona that will depart on a Thursday. This connection would involve taking the overnight train from Rome to Milan on August 30th. The following morning, you would then continue with the rest of the connection. The remainder of the connection would involve changing trains in Geneva, Valence and Figueres along the way. When you do the search for the portion of the connection from Valence to Figueres, you woud actually have to type Figueres as 'Figueras' with an 'a' instead of an 'e' as the 2nd to last letter. When you do the search for the portion of the connection from Figueres to Barcelona, you would type 'Figueres Vilafant' as the departure city and 'Barcelona Sants' as the destination.

All of the trains comprising of these connections can only be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure, with the exception of trains from Montpellier to Barcelona and trains from Figueres to Barcelona, which both can only be booked within 60 days of an intended date of departure.

To view the type of sleeping compartment on a night train, you would click 'Select' listed with the fares when you pull up the results of your search on our website for a particular night train.
