Does the Central Europe Triangle Pass allow me a take a connection from Budapest to Prague via Vienna & have it only count as one segment?

Hi -

I'm landing in Budapest at 13:40 and am worried about getting to customs and the train station by 15:25 to make the direct train from Budapest to Prague. If I take the 16:19 train from Budapest, connecting in Vienna, to Prague...does this count as 2 portions of my triangle pass? Or is this just one leg with a connecting station?

Thank you for your help.

Scott

Thank you for your question, Scott.

With the 'Central Europe Triangle Pass', you would be able to take the connection from Budapest to Prague that involves changing trains in Vienna along the way; however, it would use up 2 segments on the pass. Therefore, you would then only have one segment remaining, which you would use to get from Prague back to Budapest.

The Budapest Ferihegy Airport does not have a major rail station. You can take a taxi to get from the airport to the station from where your train to Vienna would depart.

Please note, reservations are highly recommended on each of these trains in addition to the rail pass. For travel with the rail pass, you would purchase reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage and entering a route. When doing your search, you would also be prompted to enter the type of rail pass you'll be traveling with. However, our website does not have the 'Central Europe Triangle Pass' as one of the options to choose from here. Therefore, just so you can proceed to purchase the reservations, you would instead indicate that you'll be traveling with a 'Eurail Global Pass'.

Please note, our website may only reflect the Keleti station (the main station in Budapest) as the station of departure for trains from Budapest to Vienna; however, they currently have certain trains to Vienna only departing from a much smaller station called 'Ferencváros'. While the tickets we issue for the route would still be valid for you to board at the Ferencváros station, you would want to call us in order to verify the actual station of departure for your train. You can reach us at 1-800-622-8600. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Generally, trains from Budapest to Vienna and Vienna to Prague can be reserved once within 90 days of an intended date of departure, while trains from Prague to Budapest can only be reserved within 60 days of an intended date of departure.

'Railjet' and 'EuroCity' trains are the direct trains from Budapest to Vienna, 'Railjet' trains are the direct trains from Vienna to Prague, and 'EuroCity' trains are the direct trains from Prague to Budapest.

You would purchase the 'Central Europe Triangle Pass' here: http://www.raileurope.com/rail-tickets-passes/central-europe-triangle-pass/index.html.

    Jeff -

Thank you for your reply...unfortunately my girlfriend reached out to your company yesterday and the representative there stated otherwise. So we wend ahead and booked the tickets with the Triangle pass from Budapest to Vienna (22 minute connection) to Prague, then back to Vienna and then to Budapest.

The representative stated that since our ticket was through to Prague this would only count as one leg of the pass. Any suggestion on what action I should take (since I have already reserved this train?)
