    Hi Bobette,

When 'Preferente' is offered on trains in Spain, the only difference between it and 'Turista Plus' on board the train is that food and drink would be included with 'Preferente'; the actual seat accommodations would be identical. ‘Preferente’ tickets would also grant you access to the Club Lounges found in the some of the major rail stations in Spain. Access to these lounges would not be available to passengers in possession of ‘Turista Plus’ tickets.

On our website, ‘Preferente’ would only be offered on our website if it’s the lowest available 1st class rate. For ‘Preferente’ to be a lower cost than ‘Turista Plus’, it would generally have to be the promo rate, which is rare. Therefore, when you search trains in Spain, you’ll mostly only see ‘Turista Plus’ being offered as the 1st class rate. If you want the ‘Preferente’ option but you don’t see it offered, you would have to call us to book. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays.

Keep in mind that trains in Spain do not serve food and drink on Saturdays. Therefore, even if you have ‘Preferente’ tickets, the only benefit on a Saturday would be access to the lounges.
