What kind of class is "Tourist Plus / Preferred" if the Renfe train are distinct classes?

Hello, I'm considering getting 2 tickets for the Barcelona-Seville route, but when checking the seats, appears to me that the tickets first class are of the "Touristic Plus / Preferred", but these are two distinct classes on the Renfe website .
How do I know which class I'm actually buying at the Eurorail site?

Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Hi Fernando,

With the Renfe trains they offer different types of fares. The Tourista Plus or Comfort Fare on our website is still first class but without a meal service. The Preferente or Premier Class on our website is also first class with a meal service. Please note that some dates and times may also have a Club class of service which will provide a better service than the Preferente class.

I know this can be confusing so if you have any other questions on these fares, please let us know.

    Thank you,
    Jen

  • I understand, but the seats Preferential class are differentiated, and a little more spacious than the other classes, only getting behind the Premier, correct?

So how do I buy the seat type Preference by Eurorail, since the first class can be any type of seating ranging from Tourist to Preference?
Is there a way to buy knowing which type of class (Tourist, Comfort or Preferential) I'll be buying directly or only by Renfe?

    Hi Fernando,

Point-to-point tickets are not sold on the Eurail site. You would purchase your tickets for the train from Barcelona to Seville by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of the Rail Europe website, www.raileurope.com.

As you've found, the AVE trains from Barcelona to Seville offer 2 different levels of 1st class, Turista Plus and Preferente. On the Rail Europe website, the Preferente option for this train will be found under the 'Premier' heading for fares when you pull up the results of your schedule search, and the Turista Plus option will be found under the 'Comfort' heading for fares. The 2nd class seats (Turista) are found under the 'Economy' heading for fares.

To see the name of a fare, you would click 'View' (listed with the cost under each fare heading when you pull up the results of your search), and then you would refer to where it says 'Ticket Flexibility' and click 'Read More' under the 'Fully Flexible' option that displays. Under the 'Comfort' heading, the Turista Plus fares may be labeled as 'Spanish Long Distance Trains Adult Preferente/Tourist Plus'. You can disregard the word 'Preferente' here, as you would actually only be able to get Preferente tickets if you select the option under the 'Premier' heading for this train.

  • Jeff, what is the difference in Premier seats and Comfort seats. I understand the difference in Service level, but actual seats> Both recline? Same legroom?

  • after much drama I finally bought some tickets. On the website it says best prices and I selected the first class in that area. When I eventually got the ticket it said "Turista Plus". So I went on your chat and the person there told me that it was an economy ticket? I am really confused now! ALSO when I went to the website and put my email address in to get my confirmation emailed to me the system tells me that I don't have a booking? super confused

      Hi Margi.

'Turista Plus' is 1st class on trains in Spain.

You would only be able to view your order on our website if you submitted it under an account you created, in which case, you would click on 'My Account' on the homepage after logging in. You would then scroll down and refer to 'My Bookings'.

If you have questions about a specific order you placed, you would have to contact us either by calling us at 1-800-622-8600 or by sending an email to customercare@raileurope.com.

If you send an email, please be sure to include the booking number for your order, as well as your full first and last name. However, please note it can take up to 48 business hours to receive a reply with regard to email correspondence. Therefore, you might want to call us, especially if your departure is soon from now.
