Lucerne is only a 45 to 50 minute train ride from Zurich. In Lucerne, there will be Lake Lucerne, as well as the Mount Pilatus mountaintop excursion nearby.

You can check ticket costs and schedules for trains between Zurich and Lucerne under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website,

For the Mount Pilatus mountaintop excursion, you can first take a steamer from Lucerne to Alpnachstad, where you would take the cog railway up the mountain. You would then take a cable car down to Kriens. Once you have descended by cable car back down to Kriens, you would take a bus back to Lucerne.

To be covered on the cog from Alpnachstad up the mountain and the cable car down to Kriens, you would still have to purchase the Mount Pilatus mountaintop excursion. You can purchase this pass by clicking on the following link:

Since you would just be purchasing regular point-to-point tickets to cover your roundtrip travel between Zurich and Lucerne, in this case, you would then just select the 'Alpnachstad or Kriens-Mt Pilatus/Full Fare' option for this pass.

You would purchase tickets for the steamer from Lucerne to Alpnachstad and the bus from Kriens back to Lucerne locally upon arrival.

As the North American rail ticket supplier for the various national rail networks of Europe, we are not a travel agency and would not have recommondations for other specific things to do in the area. For ideas, I would recommend searching these destinations at

Also, Interlaken and Grindelwald are about 2 and 2.5 hours respectively by train from Zurich (Zurich to Interlaken would involve a train change in Bern en route, and Zurich to Grindelwald would involve changing trains in Bern and then Interlaken). While in the area, you can make a trek up to the peak of Jungfraujoch. For roundtrip travel between Zurich and Interlaken/Grindelwald, you could purchase the Swiss Card, as opposed to regular point-to-point tickets.

The Swiss Card is a pass that allows for the inbound and outbound transfer between any Swiss airport or bordertown and any single destination in Switzerland. Zurich would count as an airport, for your specific travel. The inbound and the outbound must be completed within a time frame of 1 month and must done via the most direct routes (via Bern). You would purchase the Swiss Card by clicking here:

The Swiss Card also entitles you to receive 50% discounts on any travel in Switzerland that falls between your inbound and your outbound trips, including boats. postal buses and mountain cable-cars. On that point, you would be able to purchase your Jungfraujoch Top of Europe mountaintop excursion at a discounted rate for Swiss Card holders. You would purchase ths pass by clicking here:

Since you would be traveling with a Swiss Card, you would purchase the 'Grindelwald or Wengen-Jungfraujoch/Swiss Card' option of the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe mountaintop excursion.

For planning purposes, you can just view the schedules for trains between Zurich Airport or Zurich and Grindelwald by entering the cities under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website and clicking the option to 'Check Schedules'.
